Sophie Harrison is an artist and a felt-maker.

After studying Fine Art,painting and printing at Breton Hall (Leeds University) she discovered felt-making on her travels, she apprenticed in Switzerland with textile artist and felt-maker, Sophie Prieur. Taking the technique on her own creative journey, making sculptural clothing and wall-hangings, Sophie has exhibited in Switzerland and England.

Using the wet felting technique, Sophie uses a blend of natural fibres such as wool, hemp, flax, silk, cotton and alpaca…to name a few! Inspired by nature  and the colours and textures in the surrounding landscape, her creativity is a constant unfolding journey.

Sophie travelled the world and spent 10 years on and off, living in India, where she stayed in remote places immersed deeply in her connection with nature and its beauty. She feels that this is so much a part of who she is now and this is a quality she tries to evoke in every piece she makes.

“I love the mystery of felt-making – the unknown of layering the wool and fibres together, almost painting with the different colours of wool and texture. After adding water and friction, it is as if it creates on its own…something else takes over, a letting go to what will be…something that cannot be undone – ‘unfelted’.

An ancientness in this technique used over centuries to create textiles and warmth in the most natural of ways. Making bespoke hand-made pieces, I like knowing that each person receives something unique and made with love – ‘wearable art’. “
